Before the cut.

The early visual intentions behind this world. The finished film may take the story somewhere different.

14mm carbon-arc catwalks in high-contrast silver gelatin, a tired charcoal sphere held in steel harness, thousands of pin lights behind it. The star speaks only through heat on the cleaner's palms. Her supervisor measures usefulness in brightness; she measures it in how long anything has been allowed to stop. She turns the maintenance lamps toward the distant planet, buys the star one night of darkness, and sits with it. The morning shift arrives to find the whole crew holding torches. A cosmos that relied on one exhausted worker has learned to share a shift.

The first premise

A cleaner maintaining the artificial night sky finds a worn-out star still clocking in after retirement. Switching it off would grant it rest, but erase the only light a distant planet has ever known.
