A Thousand Years Late

01 · The story

Inside this world.

An astronaut returns a thousand years late to find a weathered robot still waiting beneath a wedding arch, keeping every memory it was asked to hold. Their reunion grows into something larger than either of them could have prepared for, building to a final reveal the film holds until its last moments.

Before the cut.

The early visual intentions behind this world. The finished film may take the story somewhere different.

Intimate 100mm portraits against eroded red-city canyons, pale morning blue, dried yellow flowers and warm 65mm softness. The robot has spent centuries repairing a promise nobody ordered it to keep. Its memory contains a lifetime of messages from the groom, including the life he eventually chose without her. The last message asks her to forgive herself, not wait. She finishes the ceremony by taking the robot out of standby, giving it a name, and walking away from the altar. Behind them, its thousand-year maintenance routine finally stops: the lights of the empty city go out one window at a time.

The first premise

An astronaut returns from a six-minute rescue mission a thousand years late for her wedding. A rusting household robot has kept the ceremony ready, and remembers the groom more faithfully than she does.
