Before the cut.

The early visual intentions behind this world. The finished film may take the story somewhere different.

Tight 85mm telephoto, shallow focus, Kodak 500T under dirty tungsten from the pass. Customers lean in and whisper grievances straight into the giant ear; it twitches, it swells, it hums. A claustrophobic, furious comedy about emotional labour that ends when she lets the ear play everything back to the whole room at once.

The first premise

A 4am diner cook has heard every complaint in the city. Her ear has grown to hold them all, coiled over her shoulder like a fleshy shell, and tonight it is finally full.
