Zyrtec — Allergy Face

An allergy campaign built on a single visual idea: allergies are written all over your face. Every sufferer wears their trigger — grass, pollen, feathers, dander — growing straight out of their skin. One image, no copy required, and the product promise lands before the reader reaches the logo.

The category problem was sameness. Every OTC antihistamine ran the same spring meadow, the same relieved smile, the same clinical onset claim in the corner. Nothing in the aisle looked like a symptom. So the work went the other direction: instead of showing relief, show the allergy — literally, physically, and on the face of a person who has clearly been living with it since April.

The device is simple enough to survive any format. A man whose beard is living turf. A woman wearing her cat. A woman crowned in wildflowers she is visibly allergic to. Shot as straight portraiture — dead-on, natural light, no wink — so the absurdity reads as documentary rather than illustration. The more real the photography, the harder the idea hits.

Heartbeat West's remit was the promo and digital work running off the master campaign: retail and promotional executions, the professional site, the in-office detail aid, and the banner and email program aimed at allergists and PCPs. The brand idea came in from the campaign work; the job here was to extend it into every place a physician or a shopper actually met it, without the device thinning out.

Members of the AIM founding team worked on this program at Heartbeat West, the Los Angeles arm of healthcare agency Heartbeat (later acquired by Publicis Groupe and folded into its health network). It sits in the catalog as pedigree, not as studio production — the reason AIM can walk into a regulated pharma room and speak the language.
